PUBLIC OUTREACH

An important part of the Transit Development Plan process is getting input from the public to ensure that the project team understands the needs of current transit riders and future riders. Due to the current COVID-19 climate, KCAG has worked with the public outreach consultant to develop a robust engagement plan that includes opportunities to virtually engage stakeholders and the county as a whole.
See below how you can be involved throughout the TDP process!

Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholders throughout this project are identified as interested individuals, representatives of community groups, or individuals who are able to provide input and review study products. Throughout this project, we will hold several stakeholder meetings at different stages of the project (either virtually or in person, as conditions allow).

Transit development plan Stakeholder advisory committee (TDPSAC):

The project team will meet with and present to this standing committee to get input from the members and update them regularly throughout the planning process. The TDPSAC members include individuals from the following organizations:
  • Kings County Behavioral Health
  • Valley LEAP
  • Caltrans
  • Kings County Area Public Transit Agency (KCAPTA) for Kings Area Rural Transit (KART)
  • Corcoran Area Transit (CAT)
  • The City of Avenal
  • The City of Corcoran
  • The City of Lemoore
  • The County of Kings
On June 5, 2020, KCAG and the project team held the first Stakeholder Advisory Committee meeting. Below you can view the meeting overview, questions and answers from the meeting, and discussion notes.

Online Community Survey

From August 1 - 31, 2020, KCAG hosted an online community survey to gather feedback on future transit improvements. Below are the informational videos produced for the online survey.

Rider surveys

In late October, early November, passenger surveys were conducted on KART and CAT transit services. We had a good response and thank you for your participation. Highlights of the survey findings are:
KART
  • KART riders like the new changes to half-hour service, but they wish service would go longer in the evenings.
  • The drivers had high praise and the highest ranking in an opinion poll. System safety and bus cleanliness were also ranked high.
  • Most passengers walk to the bus, don’t have a car, and don’t have a driver’s license. We know you rely on transit and want to make sure it works for you to the best of our available resources!
CAT
  • CAT riders gave driver courtesy high marks, along with bus cleanliness and bus comfort.
  • The website and reservation procedures could be improved
  • The most requested improvement was expanded service (especially to Hanford and Tulare) and Saturday service.
  • Passengers rely on transit (most don’t have cars, walk to the bus, and don’t have a driver’s license)
